Arkadian is a digital forensics and cybersecurity practice in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. We work with individuals who need to know what happened on a device, and with businesses that need an incident understood, a network secured, or a compliance requirement met without being sold a warehouse of products.
It is a small practice on purpose. That is the whole proposition: the person who answers the phone is the person who does the work.
How We Work
Findings come with their limits attached
Every report says what the evidence does not show as clearly as what it does. Certainty offered without qualification is a sales technique, and in this field it eventually embarrasses whoever relied on it.
We tell you when you don't need us
A meaningful share of first calls end with an explanation of why the work being asked for would not answer the question being asked. That costs us the job. It is also why people send their colleagues here.
Plain language, in writing
Findings, method, sources and limits in one document your attorney, insurer or auditor can follow without a translator — and that you can understand yourself.
What We Won't Do
These are not negotiable, and they cost us work. They are here so you know before you call.
Examine a device that is not yours
We examine devices you own, and we ask you to confirm that in writing before any work starts. If the device belongs to somebody else, we stop there. There are no exceptions and no arrangements that get around this.
Tell you what your findings mean legally
We document technical facts, the method behind them and their limits. What those facts are worth in a legal process, and what to do with them, is a conversation for you and an attorney.
Promise outcomes we cannot control
Whether data is recoverable, whether an actor can be identified, how a third party will treat a report — none of these are ours to guarantee, and we will say so at the start rather than at the end.
Sell you what you don't need
Security is a market full of expensive answers to questions nobody asked. If the hardware you already own can do the job, or the requirement you were told about does not apply at your size, that is what you will hear.
Based in Greenpoint, working across the city
We meet clients by appointment — at your office, at a neutral location, or wherever is practical for the work. We are not a walk-in office, and we would rather say that plainly than imply a reception desk that does not exist.
